An interesting start to a new year...
"Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child, ..." (Proverbs 22:15).
I put Jordan and Aubrey down for their naps this afternoon, like normal routine. Well, Jordan is still slightly awake and so is Aubrey but they fall asleep pretty easily. I go ahead and make my apple pie in the kitchen. I'm making my pie crust when I smell something very familiar... and then later on, Aubrey starts crying.
Jeb comes in the kitchen and I ask him to go check on Aubrey to see why she's crying. He walks in their bedroom and calls for me... I look in the bedroom and see Jordan in his bed and Aubrey in her crib... nothing wrong (I thought). But then, Jeb told me to look at Aubrey... and so I saw it... and the smell that I said was very familiar?... it sure was very strong in their bedroom. It so happened that Jordan got in Aubrey's crib and was "massaging" her hair with Vicks Babyrub (probly thinking it needed a good styling ;) lol). Yup, the whole container on her hair (and that container was pretty full yet). He got it all over her face, and clothes too, even on himself.
So, for 45 minutes to almost an hour, we bathed Jordan and washed Aubrey's hair over and over, and over, and over again. But the grease of the petroleum jelly won't come off. We used baby shampoo, regular shampoo... and then Jeb went on the internet to search for a remedy. Luckily, he found one! (Apparently some 3 year-old dumped a whole container of petroleum jelly on a 9-month old baby -- so this is not an unusual incident). It said to pat cornstarch on the hair to absorb the grease and leave it on for a few minutes and then rinse it with the baby shampoo mixed with baking soda, and repeat if necessary. I did this... twice. I even had her napping with cornstarch on her hair which I covered her head with a cap, and still after this her hair is still greasy. I washed her hair again tonight with baby shampoo, and then regular shampoo... even put lemon juice on it (I can tell she is getting tired of having her hair washed so many times today) but still the grease won't come off completely.

Finally, Jeb suggested to wash it with dishsoap (they claim it to be the grease stripper in commercials, right?) so we washed her hair with Dawn Dishwashing soap with bleach alternative. It did the trick. Her hair is not completely grease-free yet, but at least it is so much better than it was. Maybe, just one or two more of hair washings, her hair will be all good again.
So, if you encounter this incident (or similar) with your little toddlers... think Dishsoap. lol But, I'm sure there are better alternatives to that remedy but for now, we were desperate so Dishsoap was the solution we could think of. Better yet, keep those stuff away from reach of toddlers! A very valuable lesson to remember.

i can just imagine the trouble you and jebby went through... but still i cant help but smile.
aubrey's soo cute with grey hair.
